ROI Calculator — Return on Investment, Payback Period & Annualized ROI

Return on Investment (ROI) is the universal language of business decisions. Whether you’re evaluating a marketing campaign, considering new equipment, or assessing a real estate investment, ROI tells you whether the returns justify the upfront cost.

This calculator goes beyond simple ROI percentage to also show you annualized returns, net profit, and payback period — the time it takes to recoup your initial investment.

How to Use the ROI Calculator

  1. 1

Enter your initial investment — the total upfront cost of the project, equipment, or asset.

  2. 2

Input your expected annual revenue or savings generated by this investment. For a business investment, this would be the additional profit; for a cost-saving measure, this would be the amount saved per year.

  3. 3

Enter the annual operating costs associated with the investment (maintenance, fees, etc.). Your net annual return is revenue minus costs.

  4. 4

Set the holding period — how many years you plan to hold or benefit from this investment.

  5. 5

Review the four key metrics: total ROI percentage, net profit in dollars, annualized ROI (useful for comparing investments of different durations), and payback period (how quickly you break even).
